Default Weeting: 20=07-24 Part one

Finally got round to doing the pics for Weeting...better late than never!
The rally was as usual excellent with plenty going on especially in the working area's.
Only one complaint, does any one know why it took almost 2hrs to get from Brandon to the pay-in-desks, not good at all.
I and many others had already spent time travelling to the sight and to spend time in a queue of traffic was not good enough!

Thanks for looking,
Ron.

Default Welland Queue

High time I got back to Weeting, it was supposed to be this year but we had car issues just before.

It's been so long since I last went to Weeting that I have forgotten whether they use 'Park and Pay' or 'Pay and Park', the former being much to be preferred?

When I get caught like this, I try to use what is left of my scientifically trained brain to work out what the 'rate determining step' is that is causing the problem. My experience is that the average rally organiser knows there is a problem somewhere but isn't always aware of where it is! I also find that they do listen to constructive comments as opposed to being screamed at which tends to happen after people have been stuck in a queue for a couple of hours.

Did anyone else on this forum go to Weeting and have a view as to what went wrong this year? And how it might be addressed?

I recall that, not far away, Strumpshaw is another rally with a problem. From what I remember there is a long winding lane and people have a habit of asking questions of the stewards at the end of it rather than getting on with the main business.

Last year, I was told that Shrewsbury was splitting the cars into two (or more) streams at the first opportunity which, according to my reporter, worked wonders...

And this year, some sensible and long overdue changes at Welland did the trick too.

I attended Weeting, and arrived on site around 0830. Park & Pay was in operation. Gates were due to open at 10.00, but with a queue of 200+ by 09.30, the gate keepers relented and opened up to a ragged cheer from the patient(ish) queue. I always arrive early so that I can park near the entrance so that I don't have to walk miles to have my packed lunch and a sit down in comfort in the car at around mid day.. Woodchurch operated the same way, but opened at 10.00 on the dot as did Banbury(Bloxham)..

It was definitely there last year, perhaps the year before as well.

Another big plus for Welland is that it has always opened at 08.00 or soon after when they have got their act together.

Shrewsbury is 09.00 which is a fair compromise.

If the punters are there, surely it makes sense to let them in or is it an issue with having to not only pay extra to the people on the gate but the security people too?

I asked the why we were being held until 10.00 on the dot, and was told it was an insurance issue. Which Big Brother was watching the pay gates, I wonder?

Hello Dave,
I should have said 15210 'Hengist' which is being/or being restored.
