Default POWERFEST

Wigan Heritage Services Presents...
POWERFEST
'Culture at Full Throttle'

on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October 2012
11am until 4pm
at Trencherfield Mill

Demonstrations of the Wigan’s Mighty Engine throughout the day!
The Trencherfield Mill Steam Engine is one of the largest and finest working examples of its type. Built over 100 years ago, this mammoth metal powerhouse was regarded as a feat of industrial engineering. Churning out a massive 2,500 horse power to feed the ever hungry machinery of Trencherfield Mill, it played an instrumental role in Wigan’s industrial development.
In 2004 with the help of a successful Heritage Lottery Fund bid and restoration project, the engine was finally restored to its former glory.Visitors to Trencherfield MIll are now once again able to awe at this giant’s immense size and power, but more importantly, experience it working as it did all those years ago - full steam ahead!

Join Wigan Model Engineering Society in celebrating their 75th Anniversary, and marvel at their model creations!

Southport Model Engineering Society will showcase their marvellous models, plus a small scale track with a chance to ride on a steam locomotive!

Canal cruises provided throughout the day by pleasure boat Kittywake

PLUS, Wigan Woodcrafts and Wood Bodgers will be comparing old and new techniques in spindle and bowl turning

A chance to view yesteryear’s technology with a range of small scale steam operated vehicles

Having looked back in time to past technology, glimpse into the future! DOC Solar & Electrical will be giving demonstrations on
renewable energy

Entertainment provide throughout the day by local folk group Chonkinfeckle and street theatre by ALRA students

N-Ice Cream UK will be making exciting, instant unique ice-creams and drinks using scientific methods!
