Default Steam Threshing at Bardwell Sat 7th October

Threshing will again take place at Bardwell (IP31 1AH) Suffolk, this coming Saturday 7th October. It will be a sad day with the recent passing of my mother Enid, who was the number one supporter of the event. There will be a short intermission and a minutes silence to remember her life during the event. Proceeds from the do will be split between the Alzheimer's Society and St Nicholas Hospice in Bury St Edmunds.

Remarkably there will possibly be five visiting engines attending. Mr Gilbert is bringing his fine Burrell "Dolly", which has not ventured out for a few years, along with his Ransomes Baler. Murray Hearn is burning the midnight oil to bring his Marshall Steam Tractor, which will be his debut (fingers crossed Murray for your first outing. Alan Hines is bringing his Burrell, "The Old Chap". Stuart Hines is bringing his Fowell "Percy". Not least Scott Bunting is bringing his fine Marshall "Monty" to power the drum.

It is uncertain if the resident stalwart Ruston Oliver will be there, following a recent RTA, due to still in the hands of the surveyor and insurance assessors...

Other attractions are visiting tractors, cars, the giant combine from Euston Estate and a selection of models. A heavy horse will also grace the field.

Sadly no showmans engine this year, but the bar will be open till late or when the beer has gone!

Entry is just 2 pounds.to the field. The church tower is also open, as of course will be Bardwell Windmill.

Sadly, with the passing of mum, it is likely to be the last Steam Threshing Day at Bardwell, so we all look forward to seeing you there.

Many thanks, Jonathan and family. Cheers
