The President returns to Bressingham
Bressingham held a special event over the weekend to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, the star attraction being the return of Burrell 2789, The President which was of course owned by the museum for many years before it's sale and overhaul a number of years ago:
The museum had two of their engines in steam, Garrett Tractor 34641, Bunty and Burrell Roller 3993 Buster: Jonathan Wheeler attended with Ruston Hornsby 113043, Oliver which was engaged in running a threshing drum: Mike Dreelan left around 4.30pm, with a 12 hour return trip to Aberdeen ahead of them(!): Also, some pictures the engines in the museum which has improved radically since I last went about 20 years ago: A really good day out.

I think they are just good at cleaning them up in Aberdeen. I was told that Goliath hasn't been repainted in his ownership, they just cleaned up the old paint work, it looked absolutely pristine at GDSF last year. It was also very sunny yesterday which made it shine even more.

I caught the lagging of the Horses Friend with the front wheel when John took it to Kemble. I was absoloutly gutted about it as it made a real mess of the paint. By the next rally out John had got Bob to it, who had touched in the paint, and revarnished the front section of cladding. Other than looking a little more shiny than the rest of the engine you would never had known what I had done. Three or four events later the shine had dulled a bit and it was completely un-noticeable.

I doubt it. The paintwork is only 3 years old................ In 30 years time it may need some attention! I think you are seeing the results of lots of elbow grease and polish with plenty of silicone in it.

As far as I know, Goliath was painted by Alan Painter for Frank Lythgoe. Looking at it at Castle Fraser it has been touched up in places, some of it looks new- particularly the normal areas of black, smokebox, chimney firebox sides. The rest looks well cared for and has a nice patina to it. Surely testament to a good job in the first place?
