Default The norfolk rally

________________________________________
The Norfolk Rally was held over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of May, at North Walsham Rugby, in the village of Scottow.

Not a large event, but well supported by local exhibitors.

The steam section consisted of the Randle Bro's 1936(?) Marshall 8 ton single cyl roller, and 1900 Davey Paxman 8nhp portable, the latter had its engine mounted on a sub frame and was fitted with a expansive governor, somewhat similar to that used by Wallis and Stevens on their expansion engines. Looked after by S and D Bush, and J Brice. There was also a coal fired steam car built by David King on a Austin 7 chassis, and now owned my Mary Bush. Also there was a 4" Burrell engine owned by James Brett, and a 4" Foster. There was also two 3" scale maxi-track Aveling porter engines present, but neither of these steamed because of mechanical problems.

Vintage tractors took it in turns to drive Steve Bush's Ransomes-Sims & Jeffries RM-54 threshing drum.

Awards were given for 1st and 2nd place in each section, the steam section being won by the Davey Paxman portable and 2nd place went to James Brett and his 4" scale Burrell, which he named Sybil after his grandmother, who is still attending rallies after more than 40 years
