Default 2014 Darke County Steam Threshers

This steam rally was held the first weekend of July, outside of Greenville Ohio, 2014.

Gaar-Scott powering the sawmill.

28 HP Minneapolis

Case Steam roller

24 HP Port Huron

16 HP Huber, restored as found, running the sawmill.

This is in fact, how Americans cut water melons. It was invented by Benjamin Franklin...........

Young engineer at the throttle of a 23-90 Baker.. In the next photo you can see the top of dad's head who is sitting on the footplate. It is running a Baker fan, a device invented by A.D. Baker to test his engines.

To me it seems a little foolhardy to risk an antique in a tractor pull, but there were a couple volunteers the day I was there.

20 HP Robinson.

The show had some visitors from Canada.

A rare 1895 Empire portable engine.

Prony Brake

Tug-O-War

Nice photos of the engines.

As for pulling on the weight transfer sled, I'm quite sure they knew their equipment and how it would perform. John Holp is an excellent engineer. He is well aware of how that Advance will perform.

Thanks Beth. You would know what punishment these machines can take. I do know that they are not cheap to repair......

Some very interesting photographs there - many thanks for posting.

What would have caused the damage to the rear rolls on the Case?

I'm not sure that is damage, but I don't want to speculate about their origins. I do know these rollers had an option for steel spikes. There is a 1940s photograph that could be this very engine and those pock marks on the rolls are there in that photo. You can find that picture in the book, Classic American Steamollers 1871 - 1935 Archive.

I think we met at NTA. This is the first time I've been to Darke County. I hope I can be there again next year.
