Default Torbay steam fair gets underway

TORBAY STEAM FAIR GETS UNDERWAY

Torbay Steam Fair has chuntered into action for a 37th year, providing
exhibits and entertainment all day, every day on August 2, 3 and 4 at
The Kennels Showfields Dartmouth Road.

Having long been a favorite event in the Bay, Torbay Steam Fair
provides three days of attractions for the whole family and has grown
to become one of the biggest in the area.

While principally a Steam Fair, the gathering has expanded its
attractions to its vintage brothers and sisters and now incorporates
vintage cars, commercial vehicles, motorbikes, military vehicles,
tractors, stationary engines, and fairground rides.

The show also provides market stalls, children’s entertainment,
refreshments, and a bar. The Steam Fair is run by the Torbay Steam
Rally Group. The group was established in the mid-1980s to ensure that
the Steam Fair would continue to run after The Devon Traction Engine
Club decided they could not continue. The organisers pride themselves
on being able to bring a new Steam Engine to the fair.

This year there will be beer and live music as well as DJs to keep you
dancing into the evening.

New for this year is Adie Byng's Pig Racing on Sunday afternoon, with
big cash prizes to be won.

There will also be the main tent, with activities for all the family
happening thoughout the weekend.

Lesley Manning, Secretary of Torbay Steam Fair said: "We have another
brilliant show lined up with all the usual amazing steam engines,
cars, tractors and displays as well as a vintage fairground.

"Last year, we introduced a proper children's entertainment programme
and it was a huge success so this year's is even better with the added
bonus of Adie Byng's Pig Racing on Sunday afternoon! There is also the
brilliant evening entertainment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday."

The event is taking place at The Kennels Showfields Dartmouth Road,
Churston Ferrers, Brixham, Devon, TQ5 0JT.

I wonder if Adie Byng has to pay to enter, pay for camping, pay for any extra hands to manage the pigs etc. as steam exhibitors are now required to do at most shows?

One show I decline to attend in Scotland want the best end of £50 just to turn up with a miniature.
