Sitting at my desk, having just sorted some machine or another, and waiting for it to explode, I looked at this thread, and was taken aback by the number of engines at Dorset.

Then I wondered how many of each kind - make and use were there, Sad I know but here are the results of the analysis of 227 entries in Davids list;

by make;

make number attending
Burrell 53
McLaren 45
Fowler 34
Aveling & Porter 19
Wallis & Steevens 14
Foden 13
Garrett 10
Marshall 8
Foster 8
Allchin 5
Sentinel 4
Robey 3
Mann 2
Ruston Hornsby 2
Ransomes Sims & Jefferies 1
Foreman 1
Davey Paxman 1
Savage 1
Brown & May 1
Babcock & Wilcox 1
Hindley 1

I think the Burrells have it!

then by kind;

type number attending
General Purpose Engine 62
Showmans Road Locomotive 38
Tractor 29
Road Locomotive 26
Road Roller 25
Showmans Tractor 22
Wagon 10
Ploughing Engine 9
Portable Engine 2
Steam Bus 1
Light Engine 1
Convertible Tractor 1
Convertible Traction Engine 1

Looks like the general purpose engines have it!

Many thanks for taking the pictures David, unbelievable collection!

Now, is this the largest collection of engines in one place ever?

Ian

I can only presume most of the 38 Showmans Road Locomotive's and 22 Showmans Tractors you mention, had left the site by the time I got there
