Aveling & Porter "Mendip Star" Showmans engine. 1914. 3 Nominal horse power. This engine started life as a 6 Ton compound road roller reg number NM244 and build number 8432. At a date unknown the roller moved from Woburn Abbey to a contractor in Gloucestershire. The roller then moved down to Somerset which is when the name 'Mendip Star' was introduced. From Somerset the roller headed to Cornwall where is was sold in an auction for £3000 to a well known collector W.F. Lobb. This is when the roller was converted to showmans form with dynamo and lights. During the rebuild the firebox and smokebox tubeplates were replaced, this was believed to be in 1980 when the boiler test certificate was issued in 1996. At this point the engine was in ownership of Mr A.W.T. Sanders of Bow. A further report was done by Farncare (Ian Farrance) in 2006. Since the 2006 inspection is not known to have any use and has been dry stored the entire time.
