Default Yard engines at wimbish steam day

The firm of Taylor brothers has been based in Wimbish since 1923

The yard has an unbroken history of 96 years of being an operating base for steam something we are extremely proud of.
We are very fortunate to retain several machines that were based at yard in working times three of which were on show.

Barford & Perkins ,petrol motor roller known affectionately as " turf turf" due to its unique engine sounds
Purchased in working times but saw little if any actual use
Rescued from neglect by the late Dr Teverson ,in who's family it remains
Now thought to be one of if not the oldest motor roller in working order

Seen on right

On left
Aveling diesel roller "Southend Jack "
Purchased and driven home from Southend at little more than walking speed an epic journey
Saw use in commercial times ,sold for preservation
After an absence of 30 ish years was retuned to its old home by current owner K Swann

Aveling roller George
Purchased from Essex County Council and was promptly put to work
One of its first jobs was on contract hire .....to Essex county council!
Sold into preservation
Now stabled in her original work day base ,in the care of D Chigley

Cheers martin

Martin, with regard to the motor rollers, think you have your lefts and rights mixed up.

Yes ,sorry it's the jet lag from the high speed run home on the sentinel ,combined with a touch of trench foot after paddling around a semi flooded yard to day
