I have seen people dispense with the variator on a chippy and use a vfd instead also makes it 240volt

I enjoy these threads enormously. And without spoiling the fun, will the punchline suggest that John Fowler was an ignorant man or that Sea Scopia will somehow variate the speed of the lathe?

I reckon that Colchester must have worked for Fowler, he started off as a student.
