The Fair was started in 1976 as the Raveningham Threshing Fair (see photos below) and its purpose was to raise funds for the Raveningham Group of Churches. The centre point of every fair was the steam engine and threshing machine; other rural crafts and displays where also shown, including cutting the straw with a old binder, old tractors and stationary engines. After the 25th year the name was changed to encompass the evolving face of the event, and it is now the Raveningham Country Fair (though still referred to by many affectionately as the threshing fair). The Fair still raises money for the Raveningham Group of Churches as well as a number of local charities and good causes. 2013 will be the 37th year a fair has been held in Raveningham and it is becoming one of the longest established events on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

The Fair takes place on the first Saturday after the August Bank Holiday in the Raveningham area. We are kindly offered the use of a stubble field by a local farmer or Sir Nicholas Bacon at Raveningham Hall.

There are over 100 exhibits including working displays of threshing wood sawing and chaff cutting - all by steam, full size and miniature steam engines, stationary barn engines, vintage tractors and classic cars, which attract many enthusiasts from all over east Anglia, both as exhibitors and as spectators.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS INC

Waveney Model Flying Club

We will have a spectacular display of flying and static models, including the option to have a go yourself on a flight simulator.

Owls and Birds of Prey

The Animals

We will have our annual open Dog Show, Terrier Racing and Ferret Display. Bring along your own pet and join in!

Clowns, Donkey Rides, Bouncy Castle, Climbing Wall

There will be fun for all the family including entertainment and circus skills by Mr Jugglefun.

Tipis and viking tentsThese proved enormously popular in 2012. Come and see how skillfully these were designed for a nomadic life in Northern Europe or on the American plains.

Dance Display

Dancers from Loddon’s Funky Feet will be coming along to perform again.

Chainsaw Sculpture

Local wood sculptor Ben Loughrill will be on site to demonstrate his skills throughout the day

Working Horses

New for this year, in the arena we will have a display by Griffin Horse Logging of working horses demonstrating log-hauling to entertain you.
Working Forge

The team from St Mary’s Forge in Haddiscoe will be showing how it’s done.

Dog and Duck Display

Learn about how the natural instincts of sheepdogs can be developed in this entertaining show

Fusion Musical Theatre

This ensemble of singers and dancers aged 9-17 will be presenting excerpts from some of their shows on the stage near the tea tent.

2013 passes (in blue) are now in the post and should arrived by the end of next week.

If you have filled a form in and not received your passes by the Monday of the show please don't hesitate to contact me. Failure to produce a pass at the gate will most likely entail being charged admission
