a lot of portables just had 2 plates riveted together to make the larger man hole doors so if your inspector did some calc's that may be the best alternative Paul

Try Abbott & Co (Newark) Ltd @ Newark Boiler works, they press manway doors for air receivers.

About the door if you can get a pattern or drawings I might be able to help ie casting it
