Default Time to bite the bullet----

I would respectfully suggest that you bite the bullet, buy yourselves a suitable mill and lathe and teach yourselves how to use them. The cost of having work " Done out " at full commercial rates can be frightening. Perhaps put your valuable castings aside and build a few items from bar stock first . I would strongly advise joining your local Model Engineering/ Live steam group for advice and the chance of buying good tools and machines before they go up for public sale. I speak from experience here, I have been paid for making/ finishing/ repairing models for others . I fit the model making between" Commercial " jobs, enjoy doing the work, and always encourage my customers to do as much of the work as they can, so that they can honestly say" I made most of it. had a bit of help here and there" regards David Powell.

hi Ian

I agree with David and purchase a suitable sized mill and lathe as your time spent working out how to machine things is free also there are plenty of people on here in the model section who will happily help you out. as most of us on this forum are self taught machinist's. perseverance and commitment will pay off and your miniature will feel even more rewarding ounce it is finished.

wish you and your dad all the best with your project

regards sam
