Default Newcastle Corporation plate

We have recently acquired an Aveling 12 "H" type roller of 1921, she was originally supplied to "Newcastle-upon-Tyne Corporation" and was fitted with plates of the same type of wording.Somewhere in its preservation life these have been removed. Does any one know of there existence of similar ones that they would be prepared to sale of allow us to have castings made from them. thanks. Joe

I'll ask around up here Joe. Nice to hear you've got an engine at last, and one from up this way originally. It's always intersting to see what else from the North East survives, hope you enjoy it!

Hi Joe.Not sure if this helps, but our roller aveling 10824 was owned originally by the Jarrow corporation and ( smokey ) as the roller is called still carries the plates today. As you are probably aware newcastle upon tyne was covered or included the Jarrow corporation. If you want any pictures let me know, Regards Chris..

No , no , no !

Jarrow is on the other bank of the Tyne in County Durham , and has never had anything to do with the City and County of Newcastle upon Tyne .

I would suggest that a note to the City Engineer's Department at City Hall might produce a photograph .

Default Corporation plates

Hi everyone, thanks for all your help in this matter. Our engine had 2 plates fitted, one was"Newcastle-upon-Tyne Corporation" and on the other side "Corporation of Newcastle-upon-Tyne". We have from the previous owner photos showing the different plates on either side. Here is a picture of "Perserverance" with our Bomford van. Still looking for drawings for a canopy.

Mm , correctly there should be no hyphens , but maybe they did not tell the foundry this . I wonder if one of the plates came off an earlier roller , or are the styles the same . Is the name original ? I do not remember that I ever saw this roller at work , despite living in Newcastle , tho' I did spend an interesting day on the other Corporation steamer , a Robey tandem .

Default Patterns

The photos I have don`t show the font in any real detail but the 4 bolt holes are still on the side panels so we have the overall dimensions. I would imagine that the original patterns were from standard pattern letters available at the time. I believe the name Perseverance was given in preservation, What I am convinced is the plate is from a narrow gauge saddle tank locomotive. look forward to more comments.
