Dorman Diesel engine for sale

The Kirklees Light Railway wishes to dispose of its 1947 built Dorman 2DL diesel engine. This engine has been stored for some years but previously saw service in the railways diesel locomotive Jay. It was working when it was removed from the loco in 2003.

The engine was acquired second hand and had previously been used in one of the Hudswell Clarke locomotives at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, we suspect the A1 but it is certainly one of the ones that was overhauled at Ravenglass.

We really don't want to scrap the engine but the scrapman eyes it longingly every time he comes. It is now in the way, so if you need an old low reving diesel engine that makes a reassuring asthmatic thud thud rather than a modern far eastern purr this could be for you. It is a massive lump, a conservative estimate is 1.5 tons, so would really only be suitable for somthing fairly substantial in 12 1/4 inch gauge up. Whilst not recommend for regular commerical service as it is now 62 years old but for occassional heritage use it could be ideal (yes I know there are locomotives with comparable engines in everyday or regular use but this engine has lived!)

We have a reconditioned fuel pump and an instruction manual to accompany the engine
