Default Eddison living van wheels

Hi, I'm planning on making a replica Eddison living van and starting to source materials.

I'm currently looking for wheels and the rear axle castings. If you have any in good condition you'd be willing to part with I'd be glad to hear from you (PM me). likewise if you had any patterns i'd also be interested

thanks

Andy

Try http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/showthread.php?t=38887. Sandy has one front & one rear wheel.

I think they are still available.

Simon.

I imagine that you will find that the axles were forgings , or maybe turned from stock bar , but cast iron would have broken , and cast steel would have been too expensive .

Go on , surprise me ?

You're right what I meant is the axle housings (don't know the correct description for them!) Essentially they are the 2 pieces tthat the rear axle runs in and connect to the wooden chassis.

Stub axles? Might not be the correct term, but I have always got the point across using it. Lol

If the ' stub axles ' are secured to a timber cross member , then that is called the ' axle tree ' .

If you need grey iron castings then p.m. me for a foundry who welcome ' odd ' jobs , not too far from you .

Given that Eddisons' vans were unsprung ( I think ) then it might be an idea to fit pneumatics of a sort which might have been fitted ' back in the day ' , like series land rover wheels . A cop out , but very practical .

The rear axle is 48mm dia round bar. This is fixed to the chassis by a pair of cast iron a-brackets.

The fronts axle is a pair of stub axles let into a wooden axle under the turntable.

At least that is how my Eddison van is constructed.

The cast wheels we have with a 25mm rubber tyre which just takes out the shock of modern road surfaces on a cast wheel rim. Works well and look better than LR wheels and tyres.

Thanks everyone for the help and i now know they are called a-frames (which is obvious now I think about it!) I've been in touch with bridport and they look good although slightly undersize for the rear ones and as I'm on a tight budget i was trying to see if there were any genuine ones out there cheaper. I was definately thinking of putting rubber on them as the vans are unsprung. Luckily I have an aveling so they won't be getting too much of a high speed hammering!!
