Default The official Bristol Rally thread

After a number of successful committee meetings, and liason meetings with Andy King (the curator of Bristol MShed) we are pleased to officially announce the first finalised details of the Bristol Traction Engine Rally.

The show will take place on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of September, aka Bristol "Doors Open" weekend. It is to be exclusively a steam show (no haulage, tractors etc) due to space limitations but will include miniatures and steam boats.

We are now in the position of looking for firm expressions of interest from potential exhibitors, and we ask that these be sent via email to bristolterally@gmail.com
These emails will be reviewed and replied to in due course as planning progresses, so do not worry if you do not get an immediate response.

Regards,

The Bristol Traction Engine Committee

Hi everyone,

It has been a busy few months and although activity has been limited by committee member's other commitments, we have still managed to get a lot of things nailed down.

Firstly, we have got 5 engines signed up so far. Having planned for around 10 engines, there is still space for more engines to attend if anyone fancies doing so. Please email bristolterally@gmail.com if you are interested. There is space for a number of miniatures to attend as well as the full-size, however due to severe restrictions on overnight accomodation areas it should be noted that miniatures must either come for the day or make their own arrangements.

Unfortunately, due to the show not charging an entry fee and limited funding from other sources, we regret to announce we will be unable to offer a steaming fee. However, the committee is currently engaged in organising alternative methods of recompense for engine crews.

Secondly, for those of you that have already expressed interest, we are putting the finishing touches to entry forms hopefully this week, and these will be emailed out in due course. You should already have an official reply thanking you for your interest and confirming dates and location.

In light of the recent thread about rallies on hardstanding, we would like to point out that this rally is conducted entirely on tarmac with various bits of shelter available next to one of the locations should it really being to tip it down!

One of the planned attractions for the show is to rip up and resurface an area of hardcore behind the Create Centre, and whilst we have at least 2 rollers coming, we are lacking the other equipment. Phillip Jones has mentioned a vintage roadmaking crew in the Somerset area with stone crushers etc, if anyone knows any details on how to contact them and get them on board then please email us ASAP.

Regards,

The Bristol Traction Engine Committee - mat777, Phillip Jones, James_C and maddiestu
