Undoubtedly a good job in the first place, the patina is lovely. Did Alan repaint the whole lot or just tidy it up?

Don't know. I would have thought that Frank had everything done properly not a touch up.

I was reading last night Frank Lythgoe debuted the restored engine in the mid-1970's, I assume this was the last time it was painted.

Hence why I suggested that the bulk of the paint may be older than me!

Was it debuted at a party in Lancashire by any chance?

Other than the Canopy it does look identical to how it did in 1986 when this photo was taken.

I found it on Flickr so all credits go to Jonnie3.

I think it's merely the lining on the dynamo which has changed, but that could we have happened in Mr Lythgoe's ownership?

As Hedd has mentioned, the Cockerel appeared on all of Frank Lythgoe's engines and I think Mike Dreelan has that emblem on most of his engines too? (or atleast on Dolphin & Goliath)

On closer look, both Dolphin & Goliath have the same emblem however Goliath has a blue ribbon around it and Dolphin has, most likely, gold leaf around it.

I've just been looking at some of my 1980's Bishops Castle photos.

I recoln that the bulk of the paint date from the mid 1970's when it was painted at Johnsons of Banks by Bob Horthornwaite.

The canopy has certainly seen some attention, it is a different dynamo, and of course Mr Dreelan has his crest on the tank.

But the rest looks pretty much identical to the paint job in my photos. No doubt with touching up and varnish. It certainly is beatifully kept.

Didn't Alan Painter do Cock of the North?.
