A fair sized rally spread over three fields so plenty to see.
To me seemed well organized and well attended.
The Foden on nine...perhaps someone could provide some history on this engine as there were no programme's available hence no information.
Ron.

Anyone got any info on the Scammell in pic 34? My dad used to be depot manager of Caffyns Commercials in Canterbury on the corner of Lower Chantry Lane. Back in the days of the mid 60’s before the dreaded health and safety fixation we have today I used to go to work with him on Saturday mornings and sometimes on out of hours wrecker jobs to recover all manner of distressed trucks and plant. I don’t remember this one so interested in its history. I do remember the one below clearly, I used to climb in the cab and pretend to be driving it running down the air brakes! This used to annoy the next person to take it out as they had to sit for some time to recharge the tank before they could set off on their mission!

I also remember the Leyland “tank recovery” truck that replaced the above as I went with my dad to collect it from somewhere near Cambridge if I remember correctly. It had a rolls petrol engine and backfired something rotten going down hills! Be good to know where the one in Ron’s report worked, I know Caffyns had branches in Tonbridge and Hove so maybe it was from one of those or maybe from Canterbury and I don’t remember it. Would ask dad but sadly he is no longer with us.

Thanks,

Paul.
