Stotfold Mill Working Steam Weekend
Event taking place 9-10 October @ Stotfold Mill, near Hitchin Bedfordshire 10.30 to 17.00
A rare opportunity to see a unique collection of the steam-driven machines used for ploughing, threshing, and harvesting, that helped revolutionised farming. It was these faster, more efficient methods that meant that bread, the staple of life for most of the population, became more affordable. Stotfold’s working watermill will be operating all weekend demonstrating how locally harvested and threshed grain is ground into Stotfold Mill’s quality stone-ground flour. Whilst visiting the mill why not stop for an afternoon tea at Randall’s team room? If you are one of the lucky ones you might even get an exclusive spot on the terrace beside the mill stream! What else will I experience over the weekend? Steam – lots of it! Engines of all shapes and sizes – demonstrating how they were originally used for farming in the 19th century Ploughing using different techniques – heavy horses, steam driven & vintage tractors Working demonstrations - from steam powered threshing machines & saws Heavy horses – fire engines, cart pulling & ploughing Stationary steam powered engines – rock crushing, milling & drilling Traditional working crafts & cider pressing Craft tent – boutique crafts Kids vintage fair rides Food stalls Marquee & bar |

From memory of past visits you will find most of the Saunders collection plus others. It is a working event and not a rally so no ring events, Plus you can tour the working mill. Hope this might help. Regards Arthur |

I meant a figure, dear chap - not what'll be there. For example Great Dorset normally hosts around 200 engines (except for the Roller Special in 2013 and the 50th Anniversary Celebrations in 2018). Catch my drift?

On checking my photo's for 2018 there was 27 full size engines. Apologies for the misunderstanding. |

Was there this morning (perfect weather) and I counted 21 full-size engines and portables. Absolutely superb event as always; it's certainly one of the best 'small' events in the region and always a great way to round off the year. There didn't seem to be as many stalls as previous years though, but that's to be expected in the circumstances.
