Statfold Barn Railway Enthusiasts Day - 29 March 2014
I went over to Statfold Barn Railway this morning for their open day. Mostly narrow gauge rail stuff at this event but always an amazing place to visit:
Some road steam things to look at, interesting to compare with my pics in 2011 & 2012. One engine in steam, Aveling & Porter 11240, with new Taylor Bros sign writing on the valve covers: Aveling & Porter 10005 which has been at Statfold for a while. Restoration looks almost complete, a very impressive roller: Disassembled parts of Fowler B5 RL 9177, at one time Dawn of the Century - can’t wait to see this one finished: Sentinel 8646 awaits it’s turn after trip to GDSF last year: Fowler BB 13482, which has been reassembled and completed since I last saw it at Statfold: Foden 13222 in the shed: And Burrell 3607, a local Leicestershire engine to me for a good few years but not seen a rally field in a long time and at Statfold for some work:

There was also an Aveling Tractor in the bottom yard, though not a statfold Engine, I'm sure somebody will know who the owner is and why it's there. Didn't know you were there today David, we must have missed each other again.

9267, Mr Henton's, like the Burrell.
No, it was mainly railway sorts but I did see a couple of familiar faces.

I absolutely love the sign-writing on the motion cover of the Aveling roller. If the time is taken to carefully study archive photos of engines when they were working machines, often the motion covers were sign-written with the name or business of the owner. For whatever reason it is something rarely seen on engines today, which I think is a shame because it looks so good!
