Why do you want a dynamo? Alternators will charge in either direction and are self regulating. Mounting a 12v one in a old fashioned electric motor case looks just the job IMHO.

But they need a power supply to exite them and if the output came disconnected for any reason when running the result would be the smoke genie escaping.
