Billy Bird Memorial Road Run - 17th May
As some of you may know, for the last three years, the East Anglian Traction Engine Society has organised an event known as the "Tunstead Tea Party", based around Billy Bird's yard at Tunstead in North Norfolk. Billy sadly passed away at the end of 2007 and with him, we thought, so would the event. But this is not the case. Billy's wife, Heather, and his lifelong friend and engine crew Derek have requested the event goes ahead this year - not only to allow us to have fun with our engines but to honour Billy's contribution both to the Steam World and to his home village and the surrounding area.
Therefore it gives us great pleasure to announce that the event will take place on 17th May, and more details will be published as they become known. It is hoped to provide longer routes in addition to the present one, to allow those with faster engines to spend more time on the road if they wish. On Sunday 18th a number of the participants will travel the 14 or so miles to Strumpshaw ready for the Rally the following weekend, providing opportunities for photographers and enthusiasts to make a weekend of it.
We welcome anybody wishing to enter the event, offering help to run it, or simply coming along for a look. There is room to camp, and several pubs in the area. Hopefully we can make the event one to remember.
