Craig , I fancy that all original Fowler D2 headstocks were the same . John Allen replacements were made stronger .You know that you can borrow mine as a pattern , and the drawing is available . Headstocks are in short supply , and usually damaged , so you might recover your costs on a pattern .

Good idea Hedd , but because the headstock doubles as a very inadequate smokebox and chimney base they can get very thin . Not really one of Fowlers' best bits of design .

Thanks Bob for the offer of the loan, I just thought they may be one sat out there for sale before I go down other avenues. Hedd, Dave didnt get the one you have mentioned. He did tell me he new were it was but the guy wanted to sell the rolls with it, which I didnt realy want. I might give him a ring later and see what he can do. Thanks all.

Craig,
There is one other D2 headstock I know of. The D2 Roller Mike Sheardown has once had two. The one currently (?) fitted is a replacement, a spare that came off a D2 once belonging to Clee Hill transport. Dick woolley had it as a spare and it went with the engine to Don Pritchard and then Ken Watkins, who finally fitted it to replace the original. Its original, I am reliably told, had gone thin around the blast pipe. Now either Mike now has this one, or I hope it is still with Ken Watkins in Leintwardine. Tony I would agree about QOTB keeping convertable gear, however the realist in me thinks that a cracked but usable headstock would be better on a pallet with QOTB and a good headstock fitted to Craig's Roller. |
