The RLS ventured deep into East Anglian Traction Engine Society territory for its AGM this year. A well known senior figure in EATES, Robert Pumfrey (BEM for services to the Heritage of Steam and Agricultural Machinery in East Anglia) was to be appointed RLS President. The day started with a social gathering at the Pumfrey's yard, with three full sized engines in steam plus a selection of fine models, all enhanced by music from an organ and generous 'light refreshments'. Preceded by two of the engines, we then adjourned to a nearby village hall for the business of the day.
The Pumfrey's 'owned from new' Ruston Proctor engine 'Success' is currently undergoing a major rebuild. However here is the Wheeler family's visiting Ruston & Hornsby 'Oliver' displaying an old information board showing that it too was once part of the Pumfrey establishment.
Here's Oliver on the way to the AGM, crewed by two generations of the Wheeler family.
Still on the way to the AGM, but now with two generations of the Pumfrey's in charge.
Photo opportunity at the village hall. Apologies to the photographer, who I didn't quite manage to include. (You know who you are.)
One Ruston engine, two owners and Michael Thexton, who has written 'The Story of Ruston Traction Engines', published by the RLS.
10 ton Aveling roller 'George'.
Burrell SC 'The Duchess'
Another Ruston, actually threshing with this wonderful outfit.
An expertly built model of a specific Burrell, complete with a reproduction of the original County Council of Essex licence number plate.
A Burrell Showman's Scenic with a Dodman in the background.
Finally a superb 2 ins model of Burrell no. 3924 from Strumpshaw.
Just a flavour of an excellent 'end of season' day out.
Bill.
