Haddenham rally
Among the expected entries are 50 full size steam engines of various types as well as a wide range of miniature steam engines, bygones and displays. There are 150 vintage tractors entered, including a selection of tractors built before 1930. We are also expecting over 200 vintage cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles. The annual Heavy Horse Show takes place on Sunday, though Heavy Horses will be working alongside steam engines and tractors on both days. This year is a special year for the Heavy Horse Show, marking its 21st Anniversary. Working Demonstrations including steam threshing, baling, stone crushing, wood sawing and corn milling. It is hoped that, weather permitting, steam, horse and tractor cultivating can take place. A dragline excavator will also be at work in one of the site’s ponds. We are delighted to welcome Pauline Reader and her dancers back this year, they will perform with Keith Honour's Fairground Organ "The Four Seasons". Winston, the Singing Farmer will also be entertaining the public at the event. On Sunday we are delighted to announce that THE WURZELS are attending, and will perform live on Sunday afternoon, after officially opening the event. There will be a funfair with a range of modern rides plus the Chairoplanes owned by the Starmer family and Rule’s Steam Gallopers, built by Savage at King’s Lynn in 1893 and powered by a Tidman steam centre engine. The Gallopers will be accompanied by Michael Rule's newly restored Swingboats, built by Thomas of Chertsey in the 1920s. Returning, by poular demand, this year is the famous “Wall Of Death” show presented by Ken Fox. This is the Wall that features on the BBC Ident. http://www.wall-of-death.co.uk/index.html This joins our established popular displays by the Fenland Marine Model Group, the Cambridge City branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club, and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. There will be the usual variety of refreshment and food stalls available, as well as a licensed bar. A wide selection of trade stands will be open to cater for all tastes; there will also be a Craft Marquee. The rally is located on the A1421, just to the North of Haddenham, Near Ely, and will be well signposted from the surrounding main roads. For those of you with Satnav, the postcode is CB6 3PT. Entry is £7 for Adults, £5 for OAPs and £3 for children. On site camping is also available at £40. Money raised goes to support local causes. Gates open at 10am.
