Really good rally, 1st time I have managed to attend since the move to Wiston. Very much back to the atmosphere of rallies in 1970's my thanks to the organisers.

Any got the Works No. for the Marshall 'Jess' that attended.

Thanks again to the organisers and all those that attended with their engines.

Pete

How many Foden singles are there? A lot less than the compounds I'll bet.

We went to the Wiston Rally on Sunday. The Les Searle crew had been promoting it at Old Warden last year and other T.T. members had recommended it. Of course Ian Langley, who looks after Searles Fowler crane engine 'The Great North' is in charge of the steam section, so expectations were high.

We were not disappointed. A large number of steam exhibits from various manufacturers, a good working area with several engines belted up to saw benches, and a great display of commercial vehicles. The fairground, always of particular interest to me, was disappointing - a modern dodgem track and a couple of juvenile rides were the only offerings.

For me the highlight of the day was the way in which the organisers dealt with the appearance of 'Rhoda the Roller'. Following the recent amazing road run from John O'Groats to Lands End the engine and many of her crew appeared at the show. They were deliberately held back until all the other engines had engaged in the parade of steam and then allowed to make a 'lap of honour' by themselves. It was a very moving event and Mike and his crew mates seemed very emotional.

Sorry, I have no photos because even if I had any I would probably mess up posting them. But I think that Robin Marshman may be able to put something on here.

Thanks to all involved, a lovely rally in a beautiful location.

Stef.

Had a great weekend at Wiston! Was too busy 'playing' all weekend to take any pictures, would be good to see some more if anyone has any!
