Gear cutter wanted
Does anyone wish to part with a gear cutter please? 6dp no2 20 degree pressure angle.
Thank you. |
Still hoping.

I think you might have the pressure angle wrong. DP gears are usually 14.5 deg. PA, while module are usually 20 deg. PA.

Thanks for your reply. The pressure angle is correct at 20 degrees. I think prior to WW1 you would be correct but DP cutters are now available in both 14.5 and 20 degrees. The cutter is for the gears for a four inch Burrell, the drawings state 20 degrees.

20 degree pressure angle on the higher number tooth gears doesn't "look right" to me on this period model. yes I understand why they are used (gives a thicker tooth without undercutting at low tooth numbers), but I prefer the look of 14.5 degree, Obviously all your gears need to be the same PA.
Have you tried Tracey Tools in the UK, they often have gear cutters cheaply which would likely be the older industrial standard with 1" hole, unlike the Chinese sets you can buy now with 22mm bore. Just a thought. |
