Hydraulic press - concrete cube testing.

A bit of an odd press to advertise here but perhaps someone might have an application for it.

Our concrete department has used this for the past 50 years to crush concrete cubes. The hydraulic cylinder can exert a load of 1000 kN - around 112 tons. However, the cylinder has a very short stroke - one or two inches I think. There is a hand pump incorporated and a load dial calibrated upto 1000 kN. The screw jack on the top is around 5" diameter which gives you an idea of scale.
The casting is substantial and I would think the press weighs around 1/2 to 3/4 ton.

It is due to be scrapped which always pains me to see such waste. It all works but it is no longer in calibration.

I can't think of a steam related application. It would make a nice cheese or grape press - albeit just a little OTT.

If anybody is interested please send me a PM. It can be bought for its scrap value, which will go into the technicians' tea fund.

It would have to be collected from Cardiff and in the next few weeks in order to dissappoint the scrapman. I can load with a forklift.

Cheers Carl.

A TT member (RW) has already shown interest in this, so hopefully it is safe from the scrap man and will be heading to its new home early in the New Year.

Cheers Carl.
