Bardwell Windmill Steam Threshing day, a friendly and warm welcome to all on Sunday 23rd August.
Ruston traction engine Oliver, working a Marshall drum and Ransomes baler. Lots of other attractions going on, not least licensed beer tent, refreshments, craft and other stalls, Ian Couchman's 4" scale ransomes model drum plus other models, old tractors, cars and the Long Sutton Veteren Cycle club. Hog roast, freshly baked bread, heavy horses, Grand draw (win a cubic meter of firewood, case of wine, ride on Oliver, family tour of the nearby Euston Estate), and tombola etc. Windmill souvenirs on sale! And of course the windmill will be open, with tours and explainers. Entry just £1! In this part of Suffolk the word would be "shock", although I would say "shook". The term varies across East Anglia - a few mile away it could change. You could tell an 'incomer' by what word they used.

What ever you call them, I scrounged enough to thrash about 10 pounds of grain with the model. First time I've tried it with a crop, so very pleased with the result. A very enjoyable event! Ian |
