Saffron Walden Crank Up
Visited it's new venue today, Carver Barracks, formerly RAF Debden. Quite unusual that all the car parking is on hard standing, presumably the former airfield runways. Extremely well organised, the entry fee includes programme. There is also a tarmac road running through the rally site for the engines to parade. Visitors really were out in force, with the catering outlets proving to be very popular at lunchtime. Apart from the usual stalls, the various displays included miniatures, classic cars, tractors, motorcycles, fire engines, military vehicles and 12 full size engines, which were A&P 2942,7080,8837,9246 Burrell 2507,2770,3420,3593,3923,3926 Fowler 15467 Marshall 83780 A thoroughly enjoyable few hours, and a round of applause to the organisers. I've not broken my duck this year, but I do have Paul Gilbey's pictures of this event and that at the Great Central Railway last week on my website.
