East Anglian Traction Engine Society, Website etc.

You may have noticed the absence of the Society website recently. Sadly we have to report that our Webmaster, George Ottley died suddenly at home on August 1st. He was 77. Over the past few years George put an immense amount of effort into looking after the website, ably assisted by his brother-in-law Pat Freeman, who provided much of the “raw material”.

It was through Pat that George, a non-member at the time, came to be Webmaster, taking over the job from Hugh Dyson who had carried out much of the initial set-up. He soon got the hang of it and put his own touch to the job.

We pass our condolences to George’s family and friends.
-------
We are pleased to report that George’s niece, June, has very kindly offered to carry on her late uncle’s role for the Society, for which we are extremely grateful.

Michael Pumfrey,
Chairman.

While we are waiting for the website to re-appear, I would like to draw your attention to a few upcoming events:

OCTOBER 4th - Great Chesterford Steam Up, near Saffron Walden, Essex. 8 Engines expected along with models, cars, commercials, tractors etc.

OCTOBER 25th - EATES Dinner Dance, at Whittlesford Memorial Hall near Cambridge. Open to all, not just EATES members. Tickets £27.00. Licensed bar and live music by "All of a Sudden" and Guest Speaker. Ample parking for cars and/or caravans.

NOVEMBER 15th - AGM, to be held at The Bell Inn, Thetford at 11.00am, followed by buffet lunch and a visit to the Burrell Museum.
