Sykes V10A Gear Shaper for sale. The machine is in excellent condition spending the last ten plus years in semi-retirement cutting 3” and 4” traction engine gears. Capacity 14” diameter, also good for small 6” traction engine gears but not the final drives.

A very compact machine for its capacity having a foot print of 2’ by 3’ (0.6m by 1m). Complete set of change gears and complete set of original spanners and tooling. Two original Sykes instruction books. Bolsters 4”, 8” and 12” in diameter so traction engine gear rings can be securely held.

The purchase of this machine might appeal to the more dedicated model traction engine builder but perhaps more likely anyone in, or considering, a small business specialising in building or maintaining model traction engines. I have turned down a lot of model traction engineering gear cutting over the years.

There are 8 gear cutters, all sharp and in excellent condition, the majority new. 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16DP. These are typically £75 each on eBay.
