Gloucestershire Steam Extravaganza Kemble Airfield 6th-8th August

As many of you will know Matt Shipton no-longer posts on this forum due to a problem that he disagrees with.
Gloucestershire Steam Extravaganza Kemble Airfield on the 6th to 8th August is his baby and he does a wonderful job there.
Could everyone who is attending or who intends to attend this great rally please advise me on this topic so that we have an idea of who is coming.
I will be there again with my camera - and a couple of bottles of good old North-Eastern Brown Ale which a few of you enjoyed last year. Before you can sample the beer, I have to know you are coming.
Don't keep it to yourself - let us know!
Pleeeze!

p.s. If you do not want your appearance to be general knowledge. Please PM me
Thanks

avelingporter 17th June 2010 09:32 AM

Hi Roy

Douglas

Roy,

We sent forms back for Marshall 68754 and trailer.

If we have a good summer it will be arriving on its own wheels.

Engine John 17th June 2010 02:01 PM

I am hoping to be there. Apparently the miniatures are full so I was told to send a letter off to the section leader in case someone drops out. I have done that and am waiting to hear back. Nothing yet but fingers crossed as it is a great rally.

John

Flywheel 17th June 2010 03:11 PM

YYS4BOB 17th June 2010 07:50 PM

Hairy_monster 18th June 2010 05:10 PM

We will be coming with 'Rhoda' again. It is only 120 miles by road and we have got to do it in 2 days this year. Mum has got extra toothpaste and a spare toothbrush for Tom. (That's if he is still coming.) We leave on the Wednesday before the show from Storrington, West Sussex and we will be travelling via Winchester, Devises and Chippenham. We should get to Kemble Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Mike

Broken Firebar 18th June 2010 05:21 PM

So will you be letting my Doreen steer for you again? She has never let me forget the high step to get aboard Rhoda. Her poor little legs had problems, but once up I have never seen her so happy!

Hairy_monster 22nd June 2010 04:15 PM

Doreen is always welcome to come and steer Rhoda. Mum says with the canopy back on it is much easier to climb up!.

Mike

YYS4BOB 22nd June 2010 06:51 PM

That canopies been on and off a bit of late. Back on for Kemble then?

Hairy_monster 23rd June 2010 07:26 PM

We like to ring the changes. It will be on for roading it over as it keeps the hot cinders off us. However we might ask 'Old Tim' to take it off for the weekend, as long as it isn't raining.

Mike
PS Matt said that he wanted convertables for the weekend.

YYS4BOB 23rd June 2010 08:05 PM

Can we not do a conversion for the show during the weekend?

You know - convert a Showmans to a roller!!!!!!!!!!

YYS4BOB 23rd June 2010 08:32 PM

Now there's a good plan. Perhaps to a tar sprayer??????

tasker tractor 23rd June 2010 08:48 PM

not sure i have enough bits yet was thinking of doing it at dorset 1 year when the new rear wheels are finished. Day 1 into roller day 5 back to tractor a 3day or weekend show is not long enough really

cheeseroller 23rd June 2010 09:37 PM

Road Run

Each year there is an unofficial Road Run to a local pub at Kemble.

Rather than load up trailers with people on what is a pretty fast moving road, the steam section has organised a bus to run people down to the pub and back on the Saturday evening alongside the engines that travel down..

If any day visitors would like to take advantage of this please make contact via PM so we have some idea of numbers. If a second bus is required we can organise.

(Normal admission fee applies. Pick up only inside show ground. Service subject to availability etc.)

mugglesquop 3rd August 2010 10:22 AM

can larger models(4" + ) go on the road run as well?

Surely if it's an UNOFFICIAL road run you can do what the hell you like - public road, road legal vehicle, it's up to you.

It is however a very fast road so whether it's advisable or not is a different matter.

Legally , yes , but I doubt whether it or its pilot would live to tell the tale .

But at least it is the size of a small car.

Not the size of a pram.....

Dave © 3rd August 2010 12:06 PM

True but it does come into the questioned 4"+ category although I would not feel safe on that road on anything less than full size unless I was escorted by something much bigger just behind me!

lampwortroy 3rd August 2010 12:14 PM

I am hearing rumours of the event moving to South Cerney Airfield next year. If true, is there a more accessible pub for a road run there?

nope.

its also all military, so i cant see it going there. we used to race RC Cars in one of the hangers, all had security passes and booking in/out to get on/off the site.

I have heard a rumour that the Americans might be moving out of Fairford Airbase, so that might go private like Kemble did, in which case it could be situated there.

incase anyone didnt know, Kemble Airfield is now called "Cotswold Airport"
