GDSF 2015 - Part 1

I知 back home in Cornwall for a night, so half decent internet connection so able to post some pics (and opportunity for a shower plus proper nights sleep).

Ground conditions are soft to medium but sunshine on first day helped no end - plenty of movement throughout past 2 days.

Engine numbers are noticeably down this year, in particular there seems to be holes in the showmans line and a number of local regulars are noticeably absent.

On the flip side several new engines to me, the Scourfield Marshall is a real treat, a lot a work ahead for the team over there.

My first batch of pics:

Yes sunny on an off all day yesterday and nice this morning but clouded over after lunch. I think the dust bowl is approaching!

Without wanting to sound like the world's greatest arse licker...

The three Searles road locos have covered great distances on the road this year, and there still up to there usual tricks in the play pen.

That's the mark of good kit!

Their enthusiasm is pretty endless. Made a change though to see 3 engines tackling big load this afternoon without any Searle engines involvement, been a while since that happened:

Nice pictures David. The eddison roller in the tent looks brilliant! So nice it wasn't repainted.

Might just be me but it looks quiet...! Schools going back probably effects midweek crowds quite a bit.

Very quiet, the public camping seems barely half full - I think Saturday will be very busy.

Triton 4th September 2015 12:09 AM

An excellent set of photos, David. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Hopefully, I will make my first trip to GDSF next year.

Comeonoldgirl 4th September 2015 05:52 AM

Great pictures. Supreme looks fantastic.

Earl Kitchener 4th September 2015 05:59 AM

We really enjoyed ourselves. Agree it seemed very quiet and I think they will be banking on a good Saturday. Trade stand lettings also seemed down though maybe some will pull on Friday - crafts half empty it seemed to me. Much better layout though and the changes worked well.

The Beaulieu autojumble has moved this year to clash, most of the lads with the good gear will have gone there.

Chris Cox 4th September 2015 06:26 AM

Thanks for pics David, it seems Launceston is approaching its full quota of McLarens! Rather fond of the Eddison roller.:p

Agreed - but the same was true of general workers in the main gaff section.

I can honestly say the only stalls Ive ever looked at at Dorset are Autojumble or tools. The rest is the sort of shit you can buy at any market the rest of the year for 2/3 of the price.

I spoke to at least two traders at Onslow who were not going to Dorset because of Beaulieu.

There's a batch of photos from Wednesday on my Facebook timeline (publicly shared) at the link below.

David

Any information on the rusty engine outside the NTET marque, make, number etc

Thanks

Arthur

8_10 Brass Cleaner 4th September 2015 11:44 AM

its not just rusty, some of it is not there!

Look in your TER, 1890 something with a DE registration.

Bongodog 5th September 2015 10:24 PM

Seemed very quiet numbers wise on Thursday and Friday. One aisle on the trade stands section was virtually empty. Seems a big increase in stalls catering for people with a taste for bling since my last visit a few years back. Also some rather dubious items for sale at the top of the field. Otherwise a good show.

PeterHrd 6th September 2015 07:16 AM

Arthur,

Its Marshall 24121 Reg DE 2698 of 1894, hope that helps

Pete

Lots of Good stuff still on the stalls, be it fewer than usual, just had to look for it. I know we all got some good bargains! I spent rather a lot of money! lol

Stewart 6th September 2015 07:51 PM

uunfortunatly some stall owners didn't clear up after themselves.. walked past an empty pitch that had lots of tat just thrown on the floor. Such a shame.. other than that it looked like alot of it was from Geordie shore.. good steam turn out tho

The trailer & load weigh about 50 tons so i'm told.

carl_byrne 7th September 2015 06:43 PM

Was the video taken on the Saturday before the show or show Saturday? Where is everybody???

Cheers Carl.

RoyalEnfield 7th September 2015 06:48 PM

The strobe effect on that video makes the flywheels seem to go at the wrong speed and even reverse at times! Wierd

They said Late on Sunday Afternoon, so I guess everyone was trying to get out of the show, or had left already. I was nearly home I guess. :-)

Nice one Chris, didn't know you where about. Should have come to the steam yachts to say hello. We actually took Carry On around the play pen at around 7:30pm on Sunday evening before finally sitting down to dinner, it was even quieter then. Bet no one got a picture or video of that.

JTurner23 8th September 2015 01:31 PM

Is it just me or were there fewer big loads going to the top of the playpen this year? There seemed to be a lot doing laps of the lower half.
