The Road Loco Society AGM, 23rd October 2021

The RLS ventured deep into East Anglian Traction Engine Society territory for its AGM this year. A well known senior figure in EATES, Robert Pumfrey (BEM for services to the Heritage of Steam and Agricultural Machinery in East Anglia) was to be appointed RLS President. The day started with a social gathering at the Pumfrey's yard, with three full sized engines in steam plus a selection of fine models, all enhanced by music from an organ and generous 'light refreshments'. Preceded by two of the engines, we then adjourned to a nearby village hall for the business of the day.

The Pumfrey's 'owned from new' Ruston Proctor engine 'Success' is currently undergoing a major rebuild. However here is the Wheeler family's visiting Ruston & Hornsby 'Oliver' displaying an old information board showing that it too was once part of the Pumfrey establishment.

Good to see you Bill. Thanks for recording the do at Chesterford and Ickleton

Minor detail, Michael Thexton also has a Ruston 7nhp Traction Engine…. My ‘welcome address’ to the the AGM pointed out that incoming President Robert Pumfrey also has a Ruston, Michael Thexton has a Ruston as do my family, I am President of the East Anglian TES! Plus of course, Andrew Senple who recently received a medal for gallantry is also a former Ruston owner…. Bit of a theme there!

Cheers JW
