GDSF Ploughing 24 Aug 2018

Unfortunately didn't have much time to spend in the ploughing field but here's few of my snaps & short video. The Avery made an interesting contrast to the Fowler's and McLaren ploughing engines.

The chap who now owns the Avery came over talking on Friday night I think it was. I did ask how it compared ploughing here to over in the states... Apparently, the plough was too small and the field too small for them to demonstrate the ploughing properly.

The method they use though sounded somewhat interesting.

Interesting. When I watched it working it could just about make one up and down on the piece they were plowing before they had to stop and get the steam back. They then had a go at trying to get to the top of the field light engine and had to stop three times before just about making the top. The little 8 horse Fowler had a go on the plough and it didn't seem to notice it on the back.

How heavy is the Avery? It would need a lot of steam just to power itself, before the extra required to pull the plough.

Cheers Carl.
