Jamie,

I would recommend fitting a second injector instead of a pump. Aveling pumps are a pain the backside, as they are not circulating. Got 2 injectors on our e-type and its lovely!

Would be interested to see how this is mounted (at the clack box end), I had been thinking along similar lines (i.e. two injetors) but the mouting pad arrangements had put me off a little.

Dave

The gent who is in the shed next to me at the engines living quarters has a 6ton Piston Valve Aveling.

He had pump issues so had a typical aveling clack made up with an extra large flange to mount on the 4 studs used as pump mounts. Looks splendid.

The other think I have seen done, is an injector feed into the pump body, using the clacks already part of the pump casting. Obviously depends where your cracks/issues are in the casting assuming you have one.

Thanks Hedd, I have refurbed the pump quite extensively, but knowing what a poor reputation they have, and considering the jiggling about I am going to have to do now to correct alignment, I had got to thinking that a second injector may be the way forward. I have not drilled the holes for the pump yet so I could go down this route reasonably easily. I suspect that my pump would make money-wise what a clack would cost me from HSS.

Cinderella's pump has a recirc system fitted taken from the bottom of the pump.

It works superbly. If you want any info or pics, give me a shout.

The clubs Aveling has been made to recirculate utilising one of the spray bar taps.

Saying that the E types spray bar feed is on the back head.

I replaced the valve seats in mine with PTFE and keeping the bleed valve open when the pumps not in use keeps them on their seats. Pump works a treat every time.

My pump is non recirculating and I have no problems

My dear old 'E' type lost it's pump in the 1930's when it was frosted. Buncombe's fitted a standard Aveling clack valve directly to the boiler pad by cutting off the studs for the pump, then redrilling and tapping for the new studs to fit the replacement clack valve. Many Avelings of this period were sent out new from Rochester with two injectors fitted, including those purchased by Eddisons. Sandy
