Pattern letters and numbers
 

Hi all

Can someone recommend a supplier for pattern numbers I need some 3/8" high, I have googled it I can find other sizes but not that size

John Burn & Co, but I'm not sure if they exist any more - it seems they were absorbed by someone else when I searched - but could be worth a look.to see if you can find them.

I have used plastic letters intended for model railway signs. Try Ebay item 302953062991 for example. Stick them on with 5 minute epoxy. Not an ideal solution, but it works for pattern identification numbers.

I have bought pattern letters from John Burn which were the cast lead ones. They are very good. The only problem is you have to buy each letter in a pack of ten which can get expensive depending how many you need.

For the most recent pattern I needed I used Plastic ones which are about 3/8 but other sizes are available.

This was the finished result. They are more than suitable for a small run of castings and cost very little.

I agree with using Slatters letters. I glued them on with JB weld, and tooled the surface while still soft (you probably have 15-20 minutes working time with JB weld) to remove any excess adhesive. Ultimately they are plastic so won't last forever in a foundry environment, but yes they are very much cheaper.

Thanks for the great advice, I did look at the web site for Artisan Foundry Shop but could only see bigger numbers, love the idea of the plastic numbers for model railway, think I will go that way as only plan on taking one cast off it

A chap on the net was using the letters that push into boards for making temporary signs if thats any help

Sorry, those ones shown on the casting are listed at 6mm high (but look bigger) Ref 1106

I still can't upload a picture of them for some reason, just goes to a blank page.

As a guide, the nut in the picture above is .820" across flats.
