Weald of Kent postponed

Hi all,

Just been announced that the Weald of Kent show is postponed by seven days due to the stage of the ground. Please amend your plans if you are preparing to go. Now scheduled for 14/15th August

Mr. Fettler 3rd August 2021 11:20 PM

Thank you for the info, Boy they did get a LOT of rain recently.

Daft decision. Many can't change their plans at short notice. Understand a postponement but a week doesn't seen sensible.

Due to the recent weather Bill had 2 choices, postpone or cancel.

I know a lot of people cannot just change work/holidays etc. at short notice, but it really is the only way.

There is only one entrance to the site and later in the year we could have more weather problems, so a weeks postponement will give us a rally.

I speak as one who was due to leave midmorning today (Wednesday), and it has wrecked SWMBO's (next) week's plans.
We will be there.

Can't imagine you obeying anyone Tony!!!

All credit to Bill. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. A lot of people were going to be be really fed up whatever he did. Could have cancelled it, could have gone ahead and it be a total washout. Could have gone ahead, been a washout and churned the ground up so we wouldn't be welcome again.

Let's hope the weather gives us a break and we can get out for the first show since 2019

Weald of Kent postponed

My commiserations to the organisers, not a nice position to be in.

As of 12.30 (4th August), the website has yet to be updated.

I'm not the only one who refuses to use FB. If any members of the forum are in touch with the organisers, I suggest they contact them to get it updates asap.

Fortunately I was able to get my hotel reservation changed albeit at a price.

Tony and Pete are bang on. Bill is to be congratulated for a running rally on a private site that he recognises he must leave in the state he found it, if we are to return. Its about the only steam event in Kent and is a fantastic show. He does it pretty much single-handed (I know he gets some help from folk like Andy M) but the buck stops with him, not a committee.

He will have outlaid money, personal time and effort. I think its a good call, and will support a bloke who has had the initiative to actually do something.

Agree with Dave, one of my favourite rallies. Unfortunately my plans cannot be changed at the drop of a hat so will now miss the event for the 2nd year running. Usually blessed with great weather, so hope those that can attend have a good time. See you next year (hopefully).
Like Rob, I also will have noting whatsoever to do with F/Book.

Yup I'm on the now cant make it list as I'm already booked out that weekend, but totally understand where Bill is coming from.
I'd far rather it moved and I cant go, than leave it and the airstrip/area get mashed so he then cannot hold future rallies there.
Happy to miss this year for the sake of next.

Brilliant sunshine forecast for the rest of the week so fingers crossed that the ground dries out and the show goes on.
