Were there more?

And Foden D types.
Not many photos of MacLaren plougher Hero , I suspect we started too early ! The second engine to leave I think.

Yes, I saw you stopped in the ford to pick up water, If we had done that there would have been a traffic jam!

P.S I saw 4 Tigers, not 3 DOH!

Middle route ?

i passed a plougher heading between Langport and Henlow and said to me misses that i was surprised to see a plougher on the middle run, once i'd finally turned around and went back up the road i'd lost sight.

I'll put some on as soon as I get chance. Saw you leaving site, steaming past the college building.

I have been wondering if any engines stopped in the ford – and now I know at least one did – can I ask did anyone take photographs of the occurrence? I have considered for a long time it would be a really nice subject for a pencil drawing; I know of archive photos of engines taking water in fords and also of showmans engines where the trailers/ rides are being washed. A drawing would be set in the years when engines worked for a living and I would be careful not to make the scene “twee” – I try to tell it as it was which, as I see it, was extremely hard work using an engine commercially.

So... does anyone have photos of any engine standing in the ford, that I could use to form the basis of a future drawing? I do not simply copy a photograph; my drawings are often based on one particular image and then changes made to the foreground and background to create a strong composition. In this case, as water is difficult to depict, I would use the photograph to a greater degree than normal but still add other elements such as figures. The engine needs to be standing and not moving – the reflections in the water will look different, also still on strakes would be very useful. At the risk of repeating myself... my drawings are not created for profit; it is a form of therapy to help me deal with my illness. I always produce a small number of prints for people who have helped in the production of the artwork but I do not intend to market prints commercially – stress and hassle are extremely bad for my condition. I cannot imagine starting this picture for several months and then it will be quite some time before it is finished; I work on several drawings at one time and find I need to “live with” elements as the picture evolves.

If I get a chance later I will look for some archive photos and post them. I can be contacted by PM if anyone prefers this.

Thanks in anticipation,

Michael

Photographs of Hero

As promised, photos I took of Hero. By my reckoning you were the second engine to leave, the first being Mr. Tweedy.

"Steaming my way" aka Robin got some crackers at the ford.

Black Jim we saw you leaving as you trundled past the low loaders and didn't see you again!

Hero & crew were up far too early for my liking and just managed to grab some shots as they departed
